I really don’t have time to blog today, but when I saw that Funky Junk was having burlap as her feature on SNS, I couldn’t resist.
So – forgive me if there are any typos or something doesn’t make sense!!!
I like burlap – the texture and color – maybe not so much the smell! My oldest son has an outdoorsy theme in his bedroom. As he gets older we have gone more into the hunting type arena. His dad is a hunter and we have great open land to spend outdoors. And he is definitely an outdoor kid!
I made my own curtain rod and brackets out of branches and sticks. I cut the branch in half for the bracket and screwed it directly into the wall. The curtains were made to look like tree tops and I added leaves on the twine ties.
The shades I originally had were a dark brown. (to look like a tree trunk) We had problems with the windows having condensation on them in the winter so they were stained beyond use. So I replaced them with simple burlap shades. Not quite a tree trunk looking, but it works!
To open them, I added some large buttons and put a twine tie at the bottom of the shade.
Then, I came across some camouflage burlap and added that for his closet curtains. I just hemmed it on all sides and pushed the metal curtain hangers through the burlap every so often.
It is somewhat sheer, but definitely does the job of hiding the mess that usually is his closet!
You can see that there is grass painted along the bottom of the trim. That was also one of the original things I did to the room years ago.
I also added some storage in his room using burlap. These are just plain cardboard boxes covered with burlap – camo and plain. I added the same chalkboard tags I put on my other, burlap covered boxes.
Another “burlap-type” project included the cork board makeover I did a few months back.
As you can tell – I’m a big fan of burlap! Thanks for looking.
